Kopke Porto Fine Ruby Port







The other day I looked over my blog and realized that I lacked the beautiful country of Portugal as well as any dessert wines!  I could not believe it!  So finally, here is a review of a Portugal ruby port.   Ruby port is a type of port that has been fermented in stainless steel tanks and generally does not improve with age.  The Kopke Porto Fine Ruby Port is sealed with a natural cork and has a 20% alcohol level.  One of the best things about port is that it stays drinkable for a couple of weeks after you open it therefore there is no pressure to finish the entire bottle! 

The Kopke Porto is an opaque dark purple color.  On the nose were characteristics of dried blackberry, bright plum, cherry, dried violets, toffee, caramel, prunes, dried raisin, fresh tilted soil, and figs.  The nose was similar to the palate with notes of toffee, dried roses, dark chocolate, maple syrup, black anise, prunes, figs, and rich dried fruits.  Both the nose and palate were slightly hot however the rich dried fruits balanced perfectly.  Overall, a delicious dessert wine.
